Both Bern en St Gallen is part of Switzerland. Several German clans has settled in the present Switzerland such as the Alemanni (from where the French obtained the German name - Allemagne) and the Suevi. The Suevi were the most recent and has also settled themselfs in the present Baden-Wuttemberg and Elsas. The following information was obtained from the 'Historisch Biographisches Lexikon der Schweiz, Forster, page 202-203, I am not sure which volume and page 63 Vorster, page 300. There are 7 volumes.

Kanton St. Gallen.

Family of the St. gallic convent district, † in the city of Gallen. RUDOLF der Forster (RUDOLF the Forster) 1304; HANS Vorster, from Waldkirch. 1361. Coat of arms of the V. from St. Gallen: in green, black or purple (variations) a growing silvery bear. -1. RUDOLF called Ammann, from Gossau, citizen of St. Gallen, as male nurse (erw.) 1398-1409.- UstG III. P.337; IV. P.17, 374, 561, 895. -2. Pankraz (von Wil) last abbot of the monastery St. Gallen. Born 31 VII. 1753 in Naples, professorship (?) in St. Gallen 1771, teacher of philosophy, of natural sciences and of moral theology at the school of the convent, opposed from 1785 as the head of the monastical opposition against abbot Beda Angehrn, was banned to Ebringen in 1788. (Unterstatthalter) in this town in 1789, reconciled with Beda in 1796. Elected for abbot on 1 VI. 1796, he opposed against democratic endeavors, forced on 3.II.1798, he gave in the demands for independence, but protested against it in Neu-Ravensburg on 3. of March. After the occupation of St. Gallen by the French troops, on 9.VI. 1798 he published the proclamation that the convent has gone back to the old relation to the German empire. With the marching-in of the Austrians St. Gallen was again invaded (?) on 26.V. 1799, he had to leave the monastery forever after the battle at Zürich on 27.IX. 1799 and worked without interruption for the restoration of the old status in exile. After the peace of Lunéville when he demanded the old rights of souveranity in his manifesto of 20.11.1801, he rejected the obligingness of Alois Hedings to give back the monastical goods [comment: sense: properties]. After the foundation of the canton St. Gallen its (Landamman) Karl Müller-Friedberg opposed the endeavors of the abbot of Paris to claim for himself the restoration of the monasteries through the (Mediationsakte), with the statement that the convent has stopped existing. Müller-Friedberg knew that he could win Napoleaon I. for this who declared himself against the return of the abbot as well as the refund of the monastical goods whereupon the Great Council decided the liquidation. The steps to restore the convent undertaken by abbot Pankraz after the downfall of the (Mediationsverfassung) [comment: constitution of mediation) lead only on 20.111.1815 to the fixation (?) of a pension of 6000 (fl.) by the (Wienerkongress) against which the abbot protested. Against that he worked since then within the meaning of the Roman Curia for a (Regularbistum) St. Gallen, which rejected the (Tagsatzung) on 16.VII. 1816. François, from Kirchberg (Toggenburg), born 22.VIII. 1790 in Le Locle, engraver, (eingebürgerter) [comment: becoming a citizen] inhabitant of Neuenbrug 1818 and later Frech, first he engraved for watch-manufacturing and moved to Paris 1805. In 1809 he achieved in a compitition of engraving art the second and in 1814 the first grade; but for Neuenburg was no longer under the government of prince [comment: or souvereign] F. was regarded as a foreigner and lost the privileges of the (Prix de Rome). His compatriot Leopold Robert had achieved the second price. King Friedrich Wilhelm III. of Prussia awarded F. a gold medal and a pension for two years as substitute which enabled him to visit Italy. F. was one of the best-known engravers of his time and left numerous engravings, amongst others reproductions of Raphael's paintings, of Albrecht Dürer etc. as well as the pictures of Wellington, Oudinot and of Queen Victoria. Officer of the legion of honor. Member of the (Académie des Beaux-Arts) of Paris 1844, died 25.VI. 1872 in Paris. - SKL.
