  He was the six child out of seventeen children. They moved to the Orange Free State and he was involved with his brother Pieter for attacking Thabo Bosigo. Johannes was badly wounded on his leg by a rock rolled down by Basutoes. For the rest of his life he was permanent limping. He also received an assegaai wound and a weak Basutoe bullet shattered several teeth from his mouth. He had a full life and dieid in the house of his step son, Joef Alberts.
